Provided by Macmillan Cancer Support - Nursing Team (Shetland)
The Macmillan Nursing Team provides support, treatment and advice to any patient with cancer from diagnosis, through investigations, treatment and symptom control to end of life care, based within the Gilbert Bain Hospital but provide service throughout the Shetland mainland and islands.
We provide a range of locally based chemotherapy treatments and work in close liaison with oncology and haematology consultants based in Aberdeen supporting patients throughout their pathway.
A community visiting service is provided by the Palliative Macmillan Nurse who works very closely with local GP’s, social and voluntary services allowing most patients to remain at home with their families.
