Provided by The Fishermen's Mission
Life at sea can be demanding, isolating, and unpredictable. For some fishermen, leaving it behind can be even harder. When things feel overwhelming, talking to someone who understands the fishing world can make a difference.
Our area managers and support officers are all trained mental health first aiders as well as experienced, confidential listeners. Fishermen and families who reach out to us can expect:
- Confidential conversations: On the quay, at home, in a café, on the phone, or online—wherever feels comfortable.
- Support for overwhelming feelings or addictions: Whether someone is feeling low, struggling to switch off, dealing with trauma, drinking more than usual, or unsure what they need, we help them make sense of what’s going on.
- Guidance for the worst circumstances: We offer emotional support, practical advice, and access to specialist services.
- Ongoing check-ins: We stay in contact during tough seasons or life transitions.
