The Shetland Stroke Support Group is a friendly and inclusive group. We have our own committee and bank account and are affiliated with Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.
We provide support and information for individuals in Shetland who have had a stroke, with booklets of local patient stories to help people adjust to life after stroke, subsidize Physiotherapy classes, and other activities, like meals and outings.
Monthly social activities are organised, often held at the Lerwick Baptist Church, which has great facilities for folk with disabilities, including a large car park with level access from the parking spaces at the door.
In the summer months, we hire a bus with disabled friendly access and visit different places throughout Shetland, sometimes taking a ferry trip to other islands. There is a monthly newsletter sent out by post or email, and we keep our Facebook page updated regularly with information relevant to those who have had strokes, their carers and their families.
